The back half of ESPN’s Big Monday in college basketball is a Big 12 battle between the Texas Longhorns and the No. 7 Kansas Jayhawks. Game time from Allen Fieldhouse is set for 9 p.m.
The Longhorns will look to snap a two-game skid after losing to Oklahoma State on the road and Texas Tech at home as favorites in both contests. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in Saturday’s 68-62 loss to Texas Tech after staying UNDER in their previous four outings. Texas is 10-6 straight-up with a 6-10 record against the spread. It is an even 2-2 SU (1-3 ATS) in early conference play.
Texas shot 40.4 percent from the field and 35 percent from three-point range in Saturday’s loss. Kerwin Roach II is the team’s leading scorer with 13.6 points per game and he put up 17 points while going 6-for-13 in the losing effort. The Longhorns have four players averaging at least 10 PPG as part of a total scoring average of 71.1 points. They are giving up an average of 63.9 PPG at the other end of the court.
Kansas followed up last Wednesday’s 77-68 win at home against TCU as a six-point favorite with a big 73-68 win on the road against Baylor on Saturday as a 4.5-point favorite. The Jayhawks are 3-1 SU in early Big 12 play with a 2-2 record ATS. Overall, they have won 14 of 16 games SU while covering the closing number in half of those games. The total has gone OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in 10 of 16 games.
Behind Dedric Lawson’s team-high 19.3-point scoring average, Kansas is putting up an average of 78.8 PPG. He ended Saturday’s game with 17 points after scoring 31 points in his previous outing against TCU. Lawson has also led the way under the boards with 10.8 rebounds a game. He has posted a double-double in three of his last four starts. As a team, the Jayhawks are pulling down 38.8 rebounds a game.
While its hard to see Texas losing three games in a row, getting a win on the road against the Jayhawks is just too tall of a task. Look for Kansas to stay hot on Monday night both SU and ATS.
