The Milwaukee Brewers stay on the West Coast for Monday night’s three-game series opener against the San Diego Padres. Game time in San Diego is set for 10:10 p.m.
The Brewers avoided a weekend sweep on the road against San Francisco with Sunday’s 5-3 victory as -158 favorites. The total ended as a PUSH on BetAnySports’ closing total line. With three losses in their last five games of this eight-game road trip, they are 40-31 overall and just a game up on the Chicago Cubs for the lead in the NL Central Division. Milwaukee is an even 18-18 on the road this season overall.
Despite the losing 2-3 record in this current road trip, the Brewers have been able to average 5.8 runs a game. They are ranked sixth in the NL in scoring with 5.1 runs a game. Milwaukee’s pitching staff is ranked 10th with a 4.55 ERA. Look for Jhouls Chacin to get the start in Monday’s series opener. The right hander is 3-7 this season through 12 previous starts. He has a 5.74 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP.
San Diego pounded out a 14-13 victory against Colorado on Sunday as a +143 road underdog. It needed four runs in the ninth to pull out the win. The two split the extended four-game series 2-2 and the total went OVER in all four games. The Padres return home for this series with a record of 18-20 at their home ballpark. They are 35-37 overall this season.
This is another team that has been piling up the runs lately win or lose. San Diego scored a grand total of 44 runs in the four games against the Rockies after scoring just 10 runs in its previous four games. Its staff ERA stands at 4.62 after giving up quite a few runs in those last eight games. Joey Lucchesi is slated to get the start for the Padres on Monday night. The left hander has an ERA of 4.11 with a 1.13 WHIP through 13 starts this year. He is 5-4 after winning two of his last three starts.
Given the way each of these teams have been lighting up the scoreboard lately, I am going with the OVER 8.5 on BetAnySports’ total line.
